Children’s photo walk at the National Zoo

Join us Saturday, Sept. 24 at the National Zoo for a special children’s photo walk to kick off that day’s Art All Night celebration in Woodley Park. Photos taken during the walk will be displayed in a virtual gallery hosted by Woodley Park Main Street, the event sponsor.

The photo walk is from noon to 2 p.m. and open to children between the ages of six and 12, accompanied by a parent. The event is free but spaces are limited. All participants and parents will get an entry ticket to the zoo. Please RSVP here.

The event starts on Connecticut Avenue, in front of the Zoo, where participants will get basic photography pointers from Joe Newman, founder of the Focus on the Story International Photo Festival, and Noe Todorovich, executive director of Exposed DC. After the short talk, children and parents will explore the zoo taking photos either on their own or in a guided walk.

All photography skill levels are welcome. Children should bring their own digital camera, which can include iPhones or tablets. Participants will receive instructions on how to submit their photos for the review. A panel of jurors, Joe Newman, Dario Zucchi (whose work is on display at the Stanford Gallery), and Alan Kotok of the National Press Club's Photography Committee, will award "Best of Show" to four participants.
